Pirates have no trouble with Deary

DEARY–The Pirates put the game out of reach in the first quarter then finished with a few touchdowns to accelerate the end of the 50-0 win over the Mustangs here Friday, September 10.

The Pirates host Liberty Bell this Friday, Sept. 17 at Lybecker Field.

"Liberty Bell will be a very physical," commented Head Coach Kyle Kimble. "They'll be a tough opponent with a veteran quarterback and a unique offensive scheme that will challenge us."

At Deary, Pomeroy scored first on a 16-yard Trent Gwinn ramble, and the two-point conversion attempt by Colton Slaybaugh was stopped.

"Then we gave up a 52-yard pass play to open the game defensively," Kimble said. "We were backed inside our ow 10-yard line and were able to keep the Mustangs out of the end zone."

After stopping Deary, Slaybaugh punched in from eight yards and added the two-point conversion to make it 14-0 Pomeroy.

A few minutes later, Gwinn bolted into the end zone from 10 yards out. The PAT failed, but the Pirates were firmly in command, 20-0.

The final touchdown of the first quarter was a Gwinn pass to Slaybaugh for a 36-yard touchdown strike. Sid Bales rambled in for the two-point conversion and a 28-0 command.

Early in the second period, the Pirates held the Mustangs, forcing a punt. Deary's punt was fielded at the 20 by Gwinn who evaded tacklers for an 80-yard punt return for six. Gwinn passed to Trevin Kimble for the PAT and a 36-0 lead, which lasted until half time.

Pomeroy made two more touchdowns in the third quarter, a five-yard Bales run with a Gwinn two-point conversion, and a 21-yard pass from Gwinn to Trevin Kimble. Brodie Magill's PAT run was stopped short.

The Pirates were prolific in the run game, gaining 265 yards on 35 carries. Gwinn carried the pigskin nine times for 93 yards and two TDs, with Slaybaugh getting the ball six times for 62 yards and one score. Bales was impressive with 57 yards on eight carries and a TD.

Deary's top rusher Kaleb Rickard gained 19 yards on 10 carries, and hit seven of 12 for 118 yards through the air.

Pomeroy's passing attack was six of six for 127 yards. Gwinn connected five of five, and Sid Bales threw one pass for eight yards.

Kimble pulled in three passes for 64 yards, and one touchdown. Slaybaugh received two passes for 55 yards for Pomeroy's other passing TD.

Defensively, Braedyn White counted 7½ tackles, four solo and seven assists, with Jesse Mings counting 4½ tackles, two solo and five assists. Magill counted 3½ tackles, two solo and three assists, and Braden Mings made three tackles, two solo and two assists.

Deary's Gus Rickert had eight tackles, Rickard had six, Blaine Clark with five and Braedyn Stettler had 3.
