XC Pirates set new PRs

ST. JOHN–Pomeroy High School’s Cross Country team competed in an event in St. John on October 12 with four Pirate harriers finishing in the aft part of the pack.

Competing in the boy’s varsity event, Trevin Walton, a junior, finished 27th out of a field of 45 runners, notching a time of 21:43.

Teammate Samuel Lamb, also a junior, trailed Walton by less than a minute and a half, coming in 35th with a time of 23:10. Brady Bott, another P.H.S. junior, was about a minute later, in 39th place with a 24:09 time. Rounding out the Pirate XC runners was sophomore Cash Copher, 41st with a 24:28 time.

Mitchell Hanegan of Liberty (Spangle) topped the field with a 17:39 time.

Seventh grader Haven Kimble was Pomeroy Middle School’s lone entry in the Middle School Girls race, finishing 15th out of 25 with a time of 15:00. Charlotte Marshall of Garfield-Palouse won the race with a 10:40 time.

The Middle School boys team of seventh grader Evan Thomas and sixth grader Oscar Dispenza competed in a 45-runner field. Thomas came in 15th in 11:03 and Dispenza was 30th with a 12:29 time.

At a meet in Lewiston on October 9, Pirate runners set new personal records.

“Our athletes did a great job in a large crowd of very large schools with Haven, Oscar, Brady, and Sam getting their best times yet setting new PRs,” said Head Coach Greg Sharp.

Brady Bott finished 114th with a 22:13 time, with teammate Lamb right on his heels in 115th with a time of 22:14. Copher’s time of 23:35 and 117th place shows how the field was spread out.

Middle School girls runner Kimble was 73rd in that race, her time 15:12.

Middle School goys Thomas and Dispenza had times about a minute apart with nearly 40 runners in between. Thomas was 58th in 11:06 and Dispenza as 91st with a 12:08 time.

At Colfax on October 5, Pirate Lamb came in 24th with a time of 22:48.65, out of a field of 29. Teammate Brady Bott was not too far behind Lamb with a 22:15.52 time which put him in 27th place.

Mitchell Hanegan of Liberty (Spangle), a freshman, won with a time of 17:26.55.

Pomeroy’s Haven Kimble finished 15th for the Pirates in 15:40.49. Winner of the 1.5-mile race was Charlotte Marshall of Garfield-Palouse with a time of 10:57.02.

Thomas, a seventh grader, finished 21st with a time of 12:18.87, Dispenza was 26th with a time of 13:03.27, and finishing 37th was Ismael Arteaga in 22:00.5. First-place runner was Isaiah Hightree of Garfield-Palouse in 9:31.92.
