GCHD Employee of the Month, Mindy Roosevelt

Garfield County Hospital District is proud to announce September's Employee of the Month, Mindy Roosevelt, Receptionist, Certified Nursing Assistant, (CNA), Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Medical Assistant (MA) Phlebotomist, and a MA X-ray Technician. She was nominated by her co-workers for being an excellent employee. Her peers were quoted saying, "Mindy is a great asset to the Garfield County Hospital District (GCHD) team. She is a joy to work with and have as part of our team."

Mindy is a native of Pomeroy, Washington and was born at the Garfield County Hospital. One of her first jobs was working as a dishwasher in the Dietary Department during her high school years and graduated from PHS in 2000. Mindy has always had an interest in the medical field and began her career as a CMA at Wedgewood Terrace Assisted Living. In this role, her duties were similar to a CNA but with the added responsibility of administering daily medication to patients.

In November of 2010, Mindy applied for nursing assistant classes through GCHD and earned her CNA certification in March of 2011. After four years in this position, another opportunity presented itself as a MA with the prospect of becoming a phlebotomist and an x-ray technician. Mindy's medical ambitions launched her into training, and she achieved her MA Certification in conjunction with MA Phlebotomist and MA Limited X-ray Technician licenses through Washington Department of Health. In addition, she broadened her skill sets by helping in the Physical Therapy (PT) Department as a PT assistant for a year and then transitioned into the Billing Department in her current role as the hospital's Admitting Receptionist. This is a perfect fit for Mindy as staff have noted, "Great worker, takes great care of clients when they come in. She keeps things running smoothly. Always has a smile and is friendly."

Over the past 13 years, Mindy has become a very valuable employee, attaining several specialized skills and abilities. In November 2019, she was voted Employee of the Month. Most recently she has been working two and a half days a week as a phlebotomist to partially fill the demanding and increasing job duties of the Lab Department. Her willingness to lend a helping hand does not go unnoticed by staff. "Always dedicated and willing to help. Always has a smile and is cheerful. Always willing to go above and beyond." Her devotion and loyalty do not stop there. The festive décor at the receptionist desk is maintained by Mindy and help from the billing staff. She enthusiastically decorates for every holiday and seasons throughout the year, creating a welcoming atmosphere, which she enjoys. "I love it!"

Mindy's dedication to excellence by serving the patients and visitors with respect in a caring manner is one of her best attributes. As the first person to welcome the public when arriving at the receptionist area, her personality shines through. "She is a helpful, cheerful, wonderful human, even when being held behind plexiglass." "Mindy is an awesome person. She deals with a lot at the front desk." "Even when faced with difficult situations, she remains professional." "She fields a lot of calls, questions, paperwork and people, but she still keeps smiling! Amazing worker, upbeat attitude, great asset!"

When asked what she likes best about her job she replied, "I love the people and the patients, and when they visit, I get to hear their life stories and its fun. I hope to remain here until I retire and be a life-long community member."
