The right jolly old Elf fit Pomeroy into his busy itinerary, riding an antique, one-horse sleigh in the parade.

POMEROY–The Starlight Parade, coordinated by the local Chamber of Commerce, and Sherrie and Larry Ledgerwood, kicked off the 2021 Christmas Season Saturday, November 27, with floats and county vehicles bedecked with familiar characters and colorful twinkling lights.

Community members and visitors strolled along Pomeroy's main promenade, passing Christmas scenes in store-front windows outlined with twinkling lights and glitz. People would stop to visit friends and family met along the sidewalks there, or would pop into various stores decked out in their holiday best, to inspect the newest seasonal ware. To continue the joy of the season, many took an excursion through a magical holiday wonderland of scenes of deer surrounding a lighted tree, polar bears all lit up as visitors ambled by, a snowman waving holiday greetings to all who came to the Christmas Plaza and so much more courtesy of Lewis Clark Credit Union, Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce, and Sherrie and Larry Ledgerwood. Some also plucked a name of the Christmas Giving Tree, located near the entrance of Christmas Plaza.

The climax to the downtown holiday experience, the Starlight Parade, finally came rolling down. People lined both sides of the downtown street, as the first siren blasted, which set the parade in motion down the right lane of Main Street, Saturday evening. The first to sound the start of this traditional event was the Garfield County Sheriff's department vehicle, lights flashing and sirens blowing alerting parade goers the line of festively decorated floats were on their way.

The procession started west on Main Street and weaved its way south on 6th to Arlington, east on Arlington to 18th, traveling north to Columbia, south on 10th to High taking a west passage to 1st winding north to Pataha, then east to 15th finding its way back to Columbia and the school parking lot.

The visit to downtown Main Street and parade set a traditional mood for the upcoming Christmas season. Other Pomeroy Christmas traditions are happening around town as well.
