Trent Gwinn flies in for a lay up in Pomeroy's 60-49 win over SJEL Saturday. Gwinn made 10 in the game, 25 in the win over Gar-Pal and 28 in the opening loss to Asotin.

POMEROY––The Pirates are 2-1 after losing to Asotin then beating Gar-Pal in their gym for the first time since 2017, then soundly defeating SJEL at home Saturday.

Pomeroy plays Yakama Tribal School Dec. 18 and Liberty Christian Dec. 20 before closing the December schedule Dec. 22 at Colton.

Pirate defense held SJEL to 38-14 at half, the "D" leading to easy transitions baskets, said Head Coach Chris Wolf. The game with SJEL "will go a long way towards determining where we stand in the league this year," he said.

"Trevin Kimble led the way with 25 points on only 14 shot attempts," Wolf said. "He really attacked the rim hard tonight and did a good job of finishing." The Eagles' coverage of Trent Gwinn opened other Pirates to score, fed by Gwinn assists.

At Palouse, the Pirates beat the Vikes the first time since 2017 on their court, Wolf said. "The boys were very focused, intense, and played together," he said.

Asotin took advantage of Pirate "jitters" and turnovers to go up 18-2 in the first quarter. Pomeroy was short handed with only seven suited up, Wolf said, but those players "played hard and some young players got some great experience."

Gwinn had a great second half, scoring 28 after a slow start, Wolf said.
