Will Winona is tops in 220 lb. at Liberty

SPANGLE–Pirate wrestler Will Winona finished first in the 220 lb. division in P.H.S.'s season opener at the Brice Williams Invitational here Dec. 11.

Pomeroy will host the Christmas Tournament on December 30.

Winona pinned E. Shelton of Chewelah and R. Piat of Hanford to take first.

"The guys looked tough for their first competition of the season with four out of five guys placing in the top four in their brackets," said Coach Ben Slaybaugh.

Senior Will Winona had an especially good showing notching his first first-place finish with two pins.

In third was 195-lb. Nick Hastings, losing to C. Jenkins of Davenport then defeating J. Chang of Hanford and turning the tables in Jenkins in the third meeting.

Fourth-place finishes went to 182-lb. Curtis Winona and 152-lb. Walker Flynn. Curtis won over D. Medeiros of Kettle Falls, lost to S. Schneider of Davenport, beat J. Pierce of Almira-Coulee-Hartline, then lost to T. Ensley of Colfax. Flynn beat P. Michel of WCK, dropped a match to E. Wood of ACH, pinned Z. Hoff of Davenport then finished by losing to M. Batman of NW Christian.

Tyler Slaybaugh, at 145, pinned F. Du of Hanford, lost to T. Wood of ACH, dropped C. Allsbrook of ACH, pinned G. Richard of KF and lost to E. Bolt of KF.
