POMEROY––The Lady Pirates are amid a trio of non-league games before resuming the home stretch of the 2021-22 season, chalking up wins over Tekoa-Rosalia and Touchet. Touchet was a two-time victim of the Lady Bucs on January 11 and 15, and Pomeroy easily overwhelmed TR 45-5 last Friday.

Non-league games were against Liberty Christian last Tuesday, at Asotin on Wednesday, then coming up are Friday's and Saturday's league games with Garfield-Palouse and at St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse.

Overall the Lady Pirates are 8-2, 2-2 in league.

At Touchet the Lady Buccaneers decisively put the game out of contention with a 22-2 first quarter and a 32-2 half time score, going on to a 53-10 win.

We had another really great team win tonight and did some great things.

"We moved the ball well and utilized the gap areas to drive," said Head Coach Tai Bye. "My posts worked hard in the key to share the ball and seal hard for a lot of open looks.

"Chase Caruso played another hard game tonight and finished with 12 points and two boards. Keely Maves finished with 16 points and six rebounds," she said.

"We have been able to work on some things that we've been struggling on and we are seeing a lot of improvement these past few games," Bye commented. "We are really starting to come together as a unit and play together more successfully."

Tekoa-Rosalia is in a building year and Pomeroy allowed just two baskets: a three pointer by Emily Kramer and a bucket by Carrie Sanchez, both in the first quarter. The Lady Pirates went on to score 31 in the remaining three quarters for a 53-10 win.

"We continue to get stronger and build on our previous games," Bye said. "We moved the ball in textbook fashion tonight. Our passing was strong which led to 12 team assists, which is what we have been focusing on.

"I was glad to get my younger girls some decent minutes tonight and watch them have some success," the coach said.

Bye praised Maves, who finished with 18 points, eight boards, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Chase Caruso had a good game as well, scoring 11, rebounding seven and swiping two from the T-Wolves. Kendall Dixon, returning to play this game, scored six. "It's also nice to have Kendall Dixon back in the post," Bye said.

The first go-round with the Touchet Indians was like the game that followed, a 59-20 Pirate win.

"We played a really unselfish game," Bye commented. "I loved seeing the way we shared the ball, moved the ball, and worked the inside/outside game."

Bye was thankful to see Kendall Dixon back on the floor, giving the team more options underneath.

Maves had a strong night finishing with 20 points and three boards, Bye said. Jillian Herres finished with 10 points, nine boards, four steals and two boards.

"Everyone worked hard tonight and really just had some fun," Bye said.
