Ollie Severs (34) scored a team-high 17 points in the 59-47 loss at Asotin, but the Buccaneers weren't able to counter the hot-shooting Panthers, whose nine extra points from the three-point arc spelled the difference. Severs pulls down a rebound in heavy traffic with teammate Trent Gwinn (13) ready to help.

POMEROY––The Pirates are in the cat-bird's seat with a 6-0 league record going into the final two weekends of play, facing Oakesdale (4-3 in league) and 0-8 Colton at home, then road-tripping to Oakesdale and Tekoa-Rosalia. The season wraps with a non-leaguer versus Sunnyside Christian on Feb. 5.

Pomeroy downed SJEL by 12, 60-48, there Saturday and bested Gar-Pal in a defensive battle for a 42-26 home win Friday. Last week, Asotin shelled the Pirate ship with nine threes for a 59-47 non-league win.

The Pirates took advantage of a short-handed Eagle team, breaking out 20-7 in the first then riding that difference to the end.

"SJEL was missing several players tonight but played hard and competed with us all game long," said Coach Chris Wolf.

Trent Gwinn was game-high scorer with 20, and Jett Slusser hit four treys to score 13, and Ollie Severs poured in 13 as well.

Against Gar-Pal, the Buccaneers sailed away with a 42-26 defensive win. A 17-point second quarter proved to be the difference.

"This was a grind-it-out defensive game tonight," Wolf said. "We forced them into a lot of turnovers, but we weren't able to turn them into points on our end."

Gwinn finished with 17 and Trevin Kimble with 11. "Trent was able to score efficiently and had some great passes to set people up for easy hoops," Wolf said.

At Asotin, the Panthers' hot hand was Tanner Nicholas, who was unconscious in the first quarter, draining four from downtown and Pomeroy didn't get a hand in his face, Wolf said.

Pomeroy trailed by four after the first, then froze, only scoring seven in the second and trailing 34-21.

"We closed the lead down to four but turnovers killed us down the stretch," Wolf said.

Ollie Severs led with 17 points and really carried the Pirates offensively in the first half with 12 points, Wolf said, hitting 8/10 on 2 pointers and finishing strong around the basket.
