Margaret A. Killingsworth

October 13, 1927–February 24, 2022

Margaret A. Killingsworth died at the Transitional Care of Cascadia at Lewiston on February 24, 2022. Margaret was born to George and Lois Van Brocklin on October 13 1927 at Leavenworth, Wash. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1945 and then attended Washington State College in Pullman.

There she met the brother of one of her roommate's hometown friends, John Killingsworth. They were married on June 28, 1947 at her grandparent's home in Leavenworth and took over farming operations from John's folks, Matt and Lucinda Killingsworth, on Kirby Mayview Road. They had two daughter, Ruth Ann and Elaine.

Margaret was active in several Pomeroy organizations, including the Pomeroy United Methodist Church, the Philomathean Home Economics Club, Garden Club, and Grange. She actively participated in 4-H while the girls were members doing projects and demonstrations, eventually becoming a cub leader. She then served as a Garfield County Extension aide for ten years. Margaret spent many hours in the garden and sewing room. Each year before school, she would purchase Pendleton fabric and make a skirt or jumper for the girls. She was appointed to the Garfield County Hospital Board; she enjoyed it but did not campaign for a full term.

After retiring and moving to town, Margaret took up golf and riding her bicycle. As she and John got older, they transitioned to playing cribbage and bridge. She traveled with John to many board meetings, taking side trips to see places of interest and eventually traveling internationally to several different continents.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John of nearly 60 years, and her younger brother Roger.

She is survived by her daughters Ruth Ann Smith (Richard) of Middleton, Idaho and Elaine Fouty of Tukwila, Wash., a sister Georgena King of Pea Ridge, Ark., and several nieces and nephew.

No memorial; service is planned at this time. Private interment will be in the Pomeroy City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pomeroy United Methodist Church, P.O Box 37, Pomeroy, WA or the Pomeroy Senior Center, P.O. Box 23, Pomeroy, WA 99347.
