April 7, 2022

POMEROY–The Garfield County Pioneer Association (GCPA) is making plans for the annual county tour, Mayview Part 2 on May 14, and Pioneer Day with the Blachly family as Honored Pioneers on June 11.

The Mayview Part 2 bus tour scheduled for Saturday, May 14, will continue in the Mayview area not covered last year. It will include the Mayview grange hall, Ruark cemetery, old Wilson school, grain chutes and the tramway. More information about sign-up and time will come soon. Contact Tim Burt, 509-1732, with questions.

The following month on Saturday, June 11, Pioneer Day is back! This celebration will include a parade on Main Street, Food Fair in Spinner’s Hall and annual meeting in the Seeley Theater honoring the Blachly family as this year’s Honored Pioneers. The meeting will also include musical entertainment and information on the pioneer community, Ilia. Contact is Jim Ruchert, 509-751-6778.

The GCPA is looking for more parade participants such as kids walking and riding bikes, old cars, old tractors, FFA train and horse, 4-H, scout groups. Sorry, no commercial or political entries.

In addition, many Pomeroy High School classes holding reunions during that weekend will also participate in the parade.

Save the date May 14 and June 11 to learn more and celebrate Garfield County!
