City Council passes animal control ordinance

POMEROY–The Pomeroy City Council passed Ordinance 925; received federal grant money; holding a public hearing and were advised of booster pump project cost increase at the meeting April 5.

The City Council has approved Ordinance 925 which repeals ordinances 672, 675, and 680, as well as creates a new license and control ordinance for animals. The ordinance states that dogs must be kept on leashes, waste removed, and only allowed on the fringes of the golf course, among other rules.

The council received $92,000 in federal grant money and toll funds, which will be used for load rating on bridges. Garfield County Engineer Grant Morgan stated his intention to hire BridgeWorks, a company he has worked with before. The project deadline is December 31.

A public hearing on a conditional use permit allowing Doris and Shelby Matheny to use a section of city property. The section of property is an undeveloped street that sits next to the Mathenys’ property. Information can be found in the legal section of the East Washingtonian.


The booster pump project cost has grown to $1,300,000. The council agreed to remain committed to obtaining a matching grant from Senator Patty Murray. The city’s split of the raised cost is expected to be $250,000 more than the $450,000 earlier agreed upon.
