Short-handed Pirates struggle against Liberty

April 14, 2022

POMEROY–Crucial fielding errors and spring break had its effect on Pirate baseball as a rescheduled double header counted for two losses last week, bringing Pomeroy’s record to 5-5 heading into the second half of the season.

The Pirates lost a 6-4 close one to Liberty Christian at home April 8. “A couple of fielding errors were the difference in the game,” said Head Coach Kyler Lovgren. In the night cap, Pomeroy had just eight players on the roster and lost 20-4.

Asotin downed the Pirates in a 24-21 hit-fest April 5.

Sunnyside Christian visits today for a twin bill and the Pirates sail to Colton next Tuesday for a double header.

Trace Roberts hit the ball well along with Ollie Severs, Lovgren said, complimenting hurler Trevin Kimble for pitching a complete game. “Trevin continues to show he is a force on the mound for us,” Lovgren said.

“We were only able to finish the [second Liberty Christian] game with eight players due to player availability,” Lovgren said. “I would like to see our team improve in our resolve when the chips are down. Sometimes we have to face challenges with poor odds, but as long as we give it everything we got, it’s all anyone can ask for.”

“Asotin was a great hitting ball club,” Lovgren said. “We have some great hitters on our end, too, so the result was a high scoring game. Asotin was able to keep their bats going all game and we were a little more intermittent as the score reflects.”
