Port receives commendation for Pomeroy fiber project

May 12, 2022

POMEROY–The Port of Garfield County board of commissioners received a commendation, authorized purchase of fiber internet drops and discussed maintenance improvements at their meeting on May 3.

The Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB), part of the Washington State Department of Commerce, informed Port Manager Diana Ruchert that “The Port of Garfield County met and exceeded all expectations” for the Pomeroy Fiber to the Home projects.

The Port is nearly out of drops to connect homes with the fiber internet line, so the commissioners authorized purchase of additional ones from the Port of Whitman County if it became necessary. The purchase is not to exceed $1,000.

The Port dock on the Snake River has been damaged. Some of the protective rubber edging is missing and metal is showing. Repairs to the dock are under way.

The awnings over the windows at the Port office are also being repaired. SignCrafters, Inc., out of Lewiston, will stretch new canvas over the existing frames. The timeframe for the repair depends on the canvas shipping schedule.
