POMEROY-The Pomeroy City Council granted a conditional use permit, discussed pool staff and passed an ordinance at their meeting on May 10.

The conditional use permit was granted to Shelby and Delores Matheny after a public hearing was held. No dissenting opinions were raised against the permit, which allows the Mathenys to us a 2,000 square foot area of city property on 17th Street. The permit was granted after the City and the Mathenys signed an agreement detailing the conditions, which include the responsibility for noxious weed control, a mutual hold-harmless agreement, and the permission to build non-permanent structures.

Mayor Paul Miller announced his appointees for 2022 staff at the Pomeroy Municipal Pool. The manager will be Raelin Borley, and KayLee Schmidt, Katie Boyer, Jillian Herres, Hannah Bagby, and Adriana McGatha will be lifeguards.

The council passed Ordinance 926, amending Ordinance 917, to close out the books on the 2021 budget for the City. The council also agreed to provide a letter supporting Pomeroy School District’s Treasurer Kelly McKeirnan’s grant request to the Youth Athletics Facility. “I’ll always be in support of things we can do to improve our community,” Councilman Adam Hodges said. The grant request will seek funding to upgrade lighting and parking at the Lybecker Football Field, and lighting at the Shepherd Baseball Field.

The council also agreed to allow Bicycles Northwest to use the City Park as a staging area for food and festivities during their tour stay in Pomeroy on June 22. They anticipate the event bringing a significant number of people to Pomeroy.
