Jr. Hi track teams charmed

COLFAX–The Pomeroy Pirate boys and girls track team and individuals won by points for the third consecutive meet. The boys scored a season-best 150 points, second place Asotin scored 104, and the girls scored a season-high 120.5 points; second place Gar/Pal scored 110.

“These kids have been awesome and performed really well,” said Coach Adam Van Vogt. “To win both the boy’s and girl’s title at a meet is a very difficult accomplishment. To do it 3 meets in a row is an achievement I don’t remember any junior high team doing in the last 20 years. Great job team!”

Bethany Zimmerman, Ashton Tucker, Ariah Bingman, and Gabe Gephart ran the 400 for the first time and all four placed. “This can be a tough race but they ran hard and did a great job,” said Van Vogt. “Other athletes who tried a new event and placed in their first time trying it included Molly Warren in the 200 and Hollie Van Vogt in long jump.”

Carolina Morfin improved in three events, making her one of the few athletes in the meet to achieve such an awesome feat. She set new records in the pole vault (6’), javelin (62’11”), and discus (45’5”). Micheal Debord (discus at 73’6” and shot put at 26’ 7.25”), Cayle Mullins (75 meters in 14.11 and pole vault at 6’6”), Atalya Mitchell (12.33 in the 75 and 16.25 in the 100), Tatum Jones (12.27 in the 75 and 15.88 in the 100), Carmen Fruh (20.53 in the 100 hurdles and 7’3” in pole vault), and Michealle Debord (11.30 in the 75 and 14.72 in the 100) set new personal bests in two events.

Other athletes who set new personal bests in one event included Levi Bowen in high jump (4’8”), Gabe Gephart in the 75 (13.21), Kyzer Herres in high jump (4’8”), Tyler Matheny in the 75 (10.23), Michael Thorson in the 75 (10.91), Ashton Tucker in the 100 (16.14), Robby Van Vogt in discus (84’9”), Ariah Bingman in the 100 hurdles (24.01), Heather Hastings in the 75 (13.26), Haven Kimble in the 200 (33.36), Lilly Weatherspoon in the 300 hurdles (21.56), and Bethany Zimmerman in the 100 (15.19).

Boys who placed (top 8 score points) are Tyler Matheny 1st in the 75 meter dash (10.23), 2nd in the 100 (12.74), and 2nd in pole vault (9’6”); Michael Thorson 4th in the 75 meter dash (10.91), 4th in the 100 (14.02) and tied for 5th in pole vault (6’6”); Ashton Tucker 3rd in the 400 (1:14); Gabe Gephart 5th in the 100 (1:34); Evan Thomas 2nd in the 1600 (6:15) and 8th in high jump (4’2”); Oscar Dispenza 5th in the 1600 (7:54); Michael Debord 6th in shot put (26’7.25”) and 7th in discus (73’6”); Robby Van Vogt 3rd in triple jump (28’6”), 4th in discus (84’9”), and 7th in shot put (25’10”); Kyzer Herres 3rd in pole vault (8’6”) and 4th in high jump (4’8”); Levi Bowen 4th in pole vault (8’6”) and 5th in high jump (4’8”); Braxton Mckeirnan 1st in pole vault (10’) and 7th in high jump (4’4”); Rory Mckeirnan 3rd in long jump (12’11”) and tied for 5th in pole vault (6’6”); Cayle Mullins 7th in pole vault (6’6”); Boy’s 4x100 Relay 1st (52.31) Tyler Matheny, Braxton Mckeirnan, Levi Bowen, Kyzer Herres; Boy’s 4x100 Relay 3rd (1:03.7) Cayle Mullins, Ashton Tucker, Robby Van Vogt, Michael Thorson; Boys’s 4x400 Relay 1st (4:23) Evan Thomas, Braxton Mckeirnan, Levi Bowen, Kyzer Herres

 The girls who placed (top 8 score points) are Michealle Debord 2nd in the 75 meter dash (11.30) and 5th in the 100 (14.72); Bethany Zimmerman 3rd in the 400 (1:13.7) and 7th in the 100 (15.19); Hollie Van Vogt 8th in long jump (10’2.5”) and tied for 8th in the 100 (15.51); Kendyll Potoshnik 3rd in pole vault (5’6”) and tied for 8th in the 100 (15.51); Haven Kimble 4th in the 200 (33.36) and 5th in long jump (11’); Molly Warren 3rd in triple jump (28’2”) and 5th in the 200 (33.44); Ariah Bingman 6th in the 400 (1:25.2); Carmen Fruh 1st in pole vault (7’3”), 2nd in the 100 hurdles (20.53); Lilly Weatherspoon 5th in the 100 hurdles (21.56); Carolina Morfin 2nd in pole vault (6’) and 4th in javelin (62’11”); and Heather Hastings 5th in pole vault (5’).
