Fairgrounds to be open for July 4 community fireworks

POMEROY–The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) signed inter-agency IT agreement, discussed July 4 fireworks and possible commercial policies for Fairgrounds RV sites at their meeting on May 23.

The commissioners signed an inter-agency agreement with Inter Mountain Educational Service District for 2022-23 IT support. The cost of the services is $42,518, an increase of 25% from the 2021-22 cost of $32,567. Part of the rise in cost is due to added cybersecurity support services, and part due to the length of time since the last agreement was signed.

The BOCC agreed to open the Garfield County Fairgrounds for community fireworks on July 4. There will not be a program scheduled. The Fairgrounds will be open as a place for the public to come shoot their own fireworks.

A commercial mushroom buyer requested a site in the Fairgrounds RV site. While he has found another place and is no longer looking for one, his request raised questions with the BOCC of what the County’s policy should be regarding commercial enterprises in the RV sites. Suggestions of possible stipulations regarding damage deposits, use of electricity, and traffic were discussed and the matter was referred to the Fair Board to create a proposal for the BOCC to approve.
