POMEROY–The City Council pledged $4,000 for the Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce signage project, accepted an interim wastewater treatment plant employee proposal, and discussed maintenance of city road easements at their meeting on June 7.

The Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce signage project is now fully funded with the $4,000 promised by the City out of their capital improvement fund. The project will cost $20,000, with $10,000 of the funds coming from the Chamber, $5,000 from South East Washington Economic Development Association (SEWEDA), and the remaining $1,000 from Garfield County.

The Council accepted Thomas Warren’s proposal to be an interim wastewater treatment plant employee until such time as another can be hired.

The Council discussed the responsibility of the maintenance of city road easements, particularly the mowing of grass strips between the sidewalk and the street, with Richard Lyden, who came in with questions about it. The maintenance of easements is the responsibility of the owner of the right of way, the owner of adjacent property.

Lyden also presented the Council with a request for a dog run in conjunction with the city kennel. He has been working with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office to care for and rehome abandoned dogs. Lyden said he wanted a space for the dogs “to be a dog, instead of an inmate”. The Council will look further into options to provide this space.
