Port extends Columbia Pulp lease, will go to bid for fiber project manager

June 16, 2022

POMEROY––The Port of Garfield commissioners approved a lease extension, the purchase of a new heat pump system, and going out to bid for a project manager for the northeast county fiber project at their meeting on June 7.

The commissioners approved a six-month extension of the current lease to Columbia Pulp, to be renegotiated in the event that the business is sold. The new extension will expire on January 6, 2023.

The heat pump control system in the United States Forest Service building needs replacing, following an incident where the heat turned on and couldn’t be turned off. The commissioners approved the $78.70, plus freight and tax, purchase of a new control system.

Due to the process required by the Public Works Board grant for the northeast Garfield County fiber project, the Port will go out to bid for a project manager who will provide technical support and mapping services. Previous services have been supplied by Petrichor through an inter-local agreement, but the Public Works Board requires a different process.
