Pirates shut out Maniacs

Trevin Kimble, Pirate 5-11, 170-lb. quarterback and linebacker, was the top rusher with 139 yards and two touchdowns, and he tossed to Ollie Severs and Trace Roberts for two more touchdowns in Pomeroy's 42-0 shut out.

POMEROY––Pirate football opened the eight-man season with a convincing 42-0 drubbing of the Orofino Maniacs here Sept. 1.

This week Pomeroy visits DeSales for a 7 p.m. kick off Sept. 9.

The Pirates cranked out four first-quarter touchdowns: Walker Flynn punched the first in on a six-yard run then tacked on the extra point; Ollie Severs pulled in a 41-yard Trevin Kimble pass for a 14-0 lead; Flynn again made a one-yard scoring run with Kimble adding the PAT; and Kimble rushed for a two-yard touchdown with 2:37 on the clock, PAT failed for a 28-0 lead.

Kimble rambled 27 yards for Pomeroy's second-quarter score and in the third stanza, hit Trace Roberts with a three-yard touchdown pass. Kyzer Herres's two-point run was good for a 42-0 lead.

First touchdown of the season was a six-yard Walker Flynn (14) rumble, with Orofino's Luke McAdow (52) zeroing in on Flynn. Flynn carried seven times for 43 yards and two touchdowns.

"We played really well early," commented Head Coach Kyle Kimble, "then Orofino made some adjustments that stifled our offense awhile. Our defense was really tough all day and held them to 92 yards for the game, most of them coming on their final drive."

The Pirates chalked up 331 yards of offense, 204 rushing and 127 passing.

Kimble rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns, and completed nine of 16 for 56%, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Flynn packed the mail seven times for 43 yards for a 6.1 yards-per-carry. Running back Sid Bales kept the defense off balance, getting the pigskin 12 times for short gains.

Severs was the leading receiver with three catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Roberts caught two for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Sid Bales made two interceptions and Brodie Magill had one, plus the defense forced two fumbles and recovered two onside kicks.
