Miles of smiles are in store for fair-goers this year, if how this happy bunch of youngsters pictured at last year's fair, are any indication. The annual county showcase gets underway Friday and continues through the weekend with plenty to do, from the Friday evening parade to the Saturday livestock sale to the Pony Punchers Rodeo on Sunday. POMEROY–The Garfield County Fair "Barnyard Luau" three-day weekend begins Friday September 16 at 10 a.m., and will close Sunday, September 18 at 4 p.m. No specific distancing or masking protocols are expected this year; it will be left up to an individual's discretion.

The weekend activities kick off with the Garfield County Fair Parade on Friday evening, September 16 at 5:30 p.m. Those interested in participating must fill out an entry form and submit it to Amy Van Vogt at Inland Cellular, 141 W. High Drive or the QBH office, 856 Main St. The fair parade committee: Amy Van Vogt from Inland Cellular, Melody Darby, Quality Behavioral Health Pomeroy Partners Coalition, and Daniel Wendt, Jr./Sr/ High School principal, ask that all entries check in at the blue tent at the corner of the Pomeroy High School parking lot at 4:30 p.m., prior to lining up for the parade.


Fair exhibits will open each day at 10 a.m. Rabbit, egg, open and 4-H Home Ec., Fine Arts, Photography arrived on Wednesday; Baking and more 4-H Home Ec. arrived Thursday followed by hog, steer, lamb and goat weigh-in, and vegetable and fruit entries in the afternoon. The Horse Show Games ended Thursday activities.

Judging for some entries that had been placed on display throughout the week will begin on Thursday and continue through Friday. More fruit and vegetables including flowers and grains will be judged early on Friday morning around 7 a.m., and Livestock judging will begin in the paddock next to the hog barn at 8:30 a.m. Demonstrations and other exhibit judging will continue throughout the day.

Saturday, livestock fitting and showing will begin at 8:15 a.m. and conclude with the Round Robin at 1 p.m., 4-H and FFA pictures at 3:15 p.m., market and recognition awards at 3:45 p.m. followed by the livestock sale in the hog barn at 4 p.m. The Motorcycle and ATV arena games at 7 p.m. will finish the evening activities.

Cowboy Church begins on Sunday at 10 a.m. when the grounds open.

Other features of the fair this year are Eastern Washington Agricultural Museum open daily at 9 a.m., Izzy the Camel-sponsored by LCCU; Teen Dance in the breezeway; Smiles the Clown; Horseshoe Tournament; music by Lawrence Huntley-Hammer Dulcimer Musician, Antique Farm Show, Livestock Round Robin; Livestock Sale; Children Straw Search; the new Chicken Scramble (TBA); Cowboy Church; and the Pomeroy Pony Punchers Rodeo.

As usual, several local organizations will offer food in the concession area, and the bouncy house will be set up on the west side of the grand stands.
