Fire District receives grant for breathing apparatus purchase

POMEROY–The Garfield County Fire District board of commissioners (GCFD) announced the reception of a grant and change of backup engine according to the minutes of their September 13 meeting.

The Fire District received an Assistance to Firefighter Grant for $147,619, which requires a $7,381 match from the district. The total amount, $154,999, will be used to purchase new breathing apparatus for the district.

The district will have emergency medical service (EMS) at the fairgrounds for 10-12 hours on Saturday and Sunday, as well as a fire truck manned by Tracy Ledgerwood.

Due to engine failure on Engine 10, the back-up truck will be the 1989 Ford/Central engine. Repair on Engine 10 is currently being quoted. One quote received totals $16,000.
