Big second quarter powers Pirates past Redhawks

The Touchet Redhawks saw a lot of Walker Flynn's back going into the end zone in Pomeroy's overwhelming 66-0 win last week at Lybecker Field. Flynn, who rushed for 90 yards on five carries, scored three second-quarter touchdowns, the third starting the mercy-rule clock shortly before half time.

POMEROY––Pirate quarterback Trevin Kimble and wing back Walker Flynn crossed the goal line three times apiece while the defense held the opponent to negative offensive yards for the second week in a row in Pomeroy's 66-0 drubbing of the Touchet Redhawks here Friday, Sept. 30.

Pomeroy is 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the 1B SE 8-Man league. Next up will be Friday, Oct. 7 at Tekoa versus Tekoa-Rosalia, kick off at 3 p.m.

"Our defense was outstanding again," commented Head Coach Kyle Kimble. "Everyone contributed tonight and played very well. We held them to -44 yards on the night." Touchet fumbled four times, recovering two.

Kimble said the offense committed some mistakes but the defensive play was good at keeping the team energized. Pomeroy had 12 penalties for 125 yards.

The Pirates chalked up 414 yards of total offense, 387 on the ground and 44 through the air while the Redhawks made zero yards passing and were stuffed on their 29 rushing attempts.


Kimble, Pomeroy's 5-11, 170 lb. quarterback, rushed 16 times for 152 yards and three scores, with Walker making 90 yards on five carries and three TDs. Sidney Bales made five rushes for 67 yards and one touchdown. Other scores were by Kyzer Herres and Brodie Magill.

Kimble complete two of five passes for 27 yards with no interceptions.

Top tackler was Kimble with five solo and two assists, Trace Roberts and Flynn with three, and Ollie Severs, Sid Bales and Colby Ledgerwood with two.

Herres had a 74-yard kick off return.

In the first quarter, Bales broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown then converted the point after for an 8-0 lead. The Pirates got the ball back and Kimble moved the offense to the six where he punched it in. The PAT run was stopped, 14-0.

Pomeroy scored four touchdowns in the second quarter, Flynn getting loose for 48 and 32 yards for a 28-0 margin, then Kimble again sashaying in from the six. With the Kimble pass to Bales for two, it was 36-0. Flynn's final touchdown at 2:06 in the second stanza, with Kimble's PAT run, started the running clock at 44-0.

Kimble and Herres scored in the third period and Magill ran in from the 14 in the fourth quarter.
