POMEROY-The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) passed a levy shift, signed 2023 levy increase resolutions and signed a burn delegation letter at their meeting on December 12.

The levy shift transfers $20,000 from the county road department to the general fund. It will help fund police patrols and duties relating to the roads.

The levy resolutions authorize a 1% increase over the previous levies. Resolution 2022-32 authorizes the increase for the general fund levy in the amount of $841.92. Resolution 2022-33 authorizes the increase for the county road levy in the amount of $975.02.

The BOCC signed a letter to the Washington State Department of Ecology, petitioning for permission for Garfield County to administer the burn program. The current two-year permission has expired. A contract with the Conservation District for administration has already been signed.

The commissioners also passed two end-of-the-year housekeeping transfer resolutions. Resolution 2022-34 authorizes a $516,250.80 transfer from the E911 fund to the current expense fund, and resolution 2022-35 authorizes a $400,000 transfer from the criminal justice to the current expense fund.

The commissioners also received an award letter from the Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation for a total of $22,816. $20,116 was awarded to the fairgrounds, which will be used for building a drywell by the sheep wash racks and a new fence on the beef show ring. $1,200 will go to the 4-H program and $1,500 will go to the Friend of 911.
