Port rejects fiber design bids

December 15, 2022

POMEROY–The Port of Garfield County commissioners declined all bids received for the Northeast Garfield County optic fiber internet project, accepted a lease for a building, and discussed the Pataha fiber internet project at their meeting on December 6.

The bids for the Northeast Garfield County fiber project were 10% over the budget for design. In view of these numbers, the construction of the project could be expected to go 15% over-budget. The port commissioners decided to reject the bids and go out for bidding again in January. The grant that is funding the project has a deadline of 2026.

The shell building at 245 B Pataha Street has been temporarily leased for six months at $250 per month.

The fiber internet project in Pataha is being tested. Completion is expected on December 18.

The demolition of Warehouse 3 is being delayed due to weather. The demolition will be scheduled in mid-January, weather pending.
