Kendall Dixon fights through heavy traffic in action from Saturday's 42-33 loss. A frigid third quarter that Oakesdale took advantage of spelled the difference in Saturday's home game as Lady Pirates were heavily outscored then couldn't make up the difference. Dixon snagged nine rebounds and scored seven.

POMEROY––A third-quarter scoring burst by the Oakesdale Lady Nighthawks while the lid went on the bucked for the Lady Pirates was all Oakesdale needed to take a 42-33 win here Saturday. Friday in St. John, the Lady Buccaneers took firm command of the game from the outset and held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Lady Eagles for a 55-44 league win.

Pomeroy is now 1-1 in league, 1-2 overall, and hosts Colton on Friday, with the junior varsity facing Clarkston JV, before traveling to Sunnyside Christian for a non-league matchup Saturday. Next week, December 20 and 21, the Lady Pirate varsity plays in the Christmas Tournament in Moses Lake, opening the two-day event Tuesday with a 3 p.m. tip-off.

The Lady Buccaneers were ahead 18-16 going into half time and came out cold while Oakesdale tore it up in the third quarter, taking a 32-21 lead.

"We needed to hit some more shots and make our free throws to stay in the game, and we just fell short," commented Head Coach Tai Bye. "We had a good run in the fourth quarter but sent them to the line too many times, so we couldn't make up the deficit from the third quarter.

"I'm disappointed in the loss, but I know we have a lot of growth that will occur because I have determined players on this team," she said.

Jillian Herres was a standout for the Pirates with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Kendall Dixon scored seven and snared seven rebounds.

The week's practices paid dividends in Friday's win over SJEL. "This week at practice we talked a lot about cutting down turnovers and our fouls, and we did just that," Bye said. "That change in our stats made the biggest difference in our win. We were able to utilize our bench well and had some great successful team plays."

Herres had another strong showing with 20 points, nine boards, and six assists. Dixon finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and Chase Caruso finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals.
