Lady Bucs scuttle DW Wolfpack 65-21

POMEROY––Strong and consistent, the Lady Pirates suffered from no cold spots in their 65-21 drubbing of the Dayton-Waitsburg Lady Wolfpack in a non-league game here December 29. Pomeroy is 2-4 overall, 1-2 in league.

The Lady Pirates host Tekoa-Rosalia Friday and journey to DeSales Saturday, January 7. Touchet visits Jan. 10 for a non-league matchup.

The Lady Buc defense held Dayton-Waitsburg to single digits in each quarter while adding up buckets for four consistent quarters. Jillian Herres finished with 26 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Kendall Dixon tallied 13 points, was tough in the paint with eight rebounds, made four assists, and swiped three.

"We played a really strong team game that showed a lot of our individual players' strengths," said Head Coach Tai Bye.

"We made some changes to our offense, and it allowed us to open the floor up more and get some great looks at the basket," she added. "We passed the ball well, we finished well, and we rebounded well. We did all of the little things that led to a win."

Bye gave Kiersten Bartels a new role in the game. "I was impressed with her resilience as she led from the top of our offense," Bye said. "Bartels had confidence on both ends of the floor which led to her being a strong spark for us."

Due to the Pirates' dominance on defense, all players saw time in the game. "I love it when I can get everyone on the floor," Bye said, "and Caroline McKeirnan came off the bench after not having a lot of minutes and worked really hard for us. She had a great game, finishing with nine points and two rebounds."

In the first period, the Lady Buccaneers blew out to a 16-5 lead, and kept up the scoring in the second quarter to lead 33-11 at half time. From there, the Lady Pirates cruised through the second half to the solid win.
