The Lady Pirates won against St. John/Endicott-LaCrosse 42-19 at home last weekend after taking a bruising from Oakesdale the night before. Taylor Gilbert (12), here going to the hoop against SJEL, hit a three pointer in the game.

POMEROY–Adding to the difficulty of facing the Lady Nighthawks in their house, a night of higher-than-usual turnovers committed by the Lady Pirates helped Oakesdale to a lopsided 67-17 win. The previous night, Pomeroy pounced on SJEL 42-19 on the Pirates' home court. They are 6-6 overall, 3-4 in league.

Up next for Pomeroy is a road trip to Colton Friday and another away game at Rosalia versus Tekoa-Rosalia on Saturday. Senior Night is February 2 against Garfield-Palouse.

The loss at Oakesdale was "a really tough go for us," commented Head Coach Tai Bye. "We struggled to handle Oakesdale's transitions and we had 25 turnovers that led to bucket after bucket. We just didn't have the awareness on the court that we should have had."

The Nighthawks did the most damage in the second and third quarters, posting 53 points to Pomeroy's 13.

Jillian Herres sparked the Lady Bucs with 14 points, five blocks and four rebounds.

"Our team never quits and I give them kudos for that," Bye added.

Herres and Kendall Dixon, two of the Lady Pirates' seniors, were instrumental in the 42-19 win over SJEL. Herres scored a game-high 17 points, snagged six rebounds, swiped six and dished three assists. Dixon popped in 11 points, cleaned the glass with eight boards and rejected four SJEL shots.

"Jillian worked the ball well tonight and found the open areas on her drive," Bye said. "She also played smart defensively and was able to stay in the game, which is really important for us.

"We had a bit of a slow start tonight but got more of a spark in the second half," Bye said. "We talked about our energy on the court and working as a team to take advantage of our strengths. We play so much stronger when we are relaxed on the court and having fun, which can be hard to do sometimes.

"I was pleased with our resilience during some offensive frustrations," she said. "We didn't let that change the momentum of the game and we continued to work at improving the little things."
