The Pomeroy Jr. High girls volleyball team defeated Garfield-Palouse 25-22, 16-25, 15-6 at home on January 30.
Three players from the roster but had several players swing up, including Tatum Jones, who played all the way around and played a strong match in her first A team start.
Missing so many pieces can be disconcerting for teams of any age but the team did a good job of acting like it was just another match. They played composed despite having new pieces on the court and having different rotations than usual.
We came out really strong and, despite a late run, won game one on a Molly Warren kill that was hit very hard.
Pomeroy got a little out of sorts during game two and didn't really recover but then came out strong in game three, got out to a lead and never looked back.
Josephine Watson served five straight to give a huge lift and put the game out of reach in game three.
Pomeroy didn't serve as well as in the past and that made life hard, but I was happy with how the team bounced back to take game three. That is the sign of a good team; that we can put a loss behind us and regroup quickly.
We had 18 kills as a team with Molly Warren (5), Carmen Fruh (4), Haven Kimble (4), Hollie Van Vogt (3), and Kendyll Potoshnik (2) all having multiple kills. Hollie Van Vogt and Haven Kimble collected 6 assists each and we had 15 aces as a team. With this win the Jr. High A team is now 4-0 on the season.
