Spring forward

March 9, 2023

UNITED STATES–Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 2 a.m. It is time to "spring forward" one hour.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is the practice of moving the clocks forward one hour from Standard Time during the summer months and changing them back again in the fall. The general idea is that this allows us all to make better use of natural daylight: moving the clocks forward one hour in the spring grants us more daylight during summer evenings, while moving clocks back one hour in the fall grants us more daylight during winter mornings. We will "Fall back" on November 5, 2023, at 2 a.m.

The Sunshine Protection Act unanimously passed the Senate in 2022, and then was sent to the House of Representatives. House Speake Nancy Pelosi declined to bring it to the floor for action. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, R-FL, reintroduced the Sunshine Protection Act of 2023 for the 118th Congress. If eventually passed and signed into law, the clocks would change for the final time March 12, 2023, making Daylight Savings Time permanent.
