Pirate pitcher Ollie Severs started on the mound in the second game, a 12-2 loss to Liberty Christian, after an exciting 7-6 come-from-behind opener. The Pirates are 3-6-1 overall, 1-3 in league.

POMEROY––Some purty darn good baseball was played by the Pirates just before taking Spring Break.

The Pirates won a walk-off, 7-6 contest against Liberty Christian on Friday, March 31, at Shepherd Field, prior to dropping the second game 12-2.

Pomeroy played Colton on Monday (results next week) and next faces the Touchet Redhawks there on April 18.

Baseball fans were treated to a great ballgame in the opener. The Bucs went into the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-2 and rallied with five runs to win.

"We were down and we had guys just staying focused and getting on base," said Head Coach Kyler Lovgren. "Trace Roberts was able to drive in three runs with a hard hit double before Nick Bryson hit his two-strike, two-out walk-off single.

"Our players kept their focus and composure throughout the game," Lovgren said. "Brodie Magill came up big for us, making some diving plays in the outfield, relieving Trevin Kimble on the mound and stepping up at the plate. A key moment in this game was when Brodie took a hard-hit ball in the ribs while he was on the mound, and he was able to pick it up and throw the guy out at first to get out of the inning. I think that play showed real grit and rallied his team."

Lovgren also praised Peyton Cannon for making plays in the outfield.

Trevin Kimble pitched four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven, walking four and giving up five runs on eight hits. Magill relieved, striking out two, walking one and allowing one run on one hit.

In the second game, Liberty chipped away with bits and pieces of runs throughout the game for a 12-2 win.

"I think we continued to play better than we have all season in game two," Lovgren observed, "unfortunately it didn't go our way. We had some great plays in the infield. Our defense, as a whole, was much better on the day."

Ollie Severs was on the mound three innings, striking out five, walking four and giving up eight runs on seven hits. Trace Roberts relieved, striking out four, walking five and four runs on three hits.
