POMEROY–National Day of Prayer observation will be held at the Pocket Park on Main Street, Thursday, May 4 at 12:05 p.m.

Volunteers from Pomeroy’s local churches finalized plans for National Day of Prayer by deciding to hold the observance in the Pocket Park on Main Street. The gathering will be held on Thursday, May 4, and will begin at 12:05 p.m. Members of all faiths across America will be joined together in prayer to pray for our nation and its leaders. More than 80 members of Pomeroy’s church congregations have pledged to pray for half an hour each so that the entire day is covered in prayer.

At noon the prayer of the National Day of Prayer will be said together by churches “from sea to shining sea.” This prayer will be followed by members of the local churches praying for the seven different entities that affect life in America. Included in those prayers are Education, the Family, Business and the Workplace, the Military, Arts and Media, the Government, and the Church. A special presentation by members of the local Girl Scout Troop will include music and the Unites States Flag.

In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln reminded the war-torn nation that we must recognize the sublime truth announced in Holy Scripture and proven by all history that those nations are blessed whose God is Lord. The theme for this year’s observance is from James 5:16 which says: “The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
