Ollie Severs pitched five innings of perfect baseball in a 14-0 win over Garfield-Palouse on April 25, striking out eight and getting excellent defensive support from his team with seven outs. The Pirates clobbered eight hits and rang up 11 fourth-inning runs for the win.

GARFIELD–Pirate pitchers threw back-to-back perfect games here against Garfield-Palouse on April 25, winning 14-0 and 18-0 and getting poised for post-season play.

The Pirates are 8-6 in league and sit in fourth place, and depending on how the Touchet Redhawks do this week at SJEL, Pomeroy could be in like Flynn or, if 6-6 Touchet sweeps SJEL, would have a play-in game for the fourth seed. Another wild card is the possibility of third-place Sunnyside Christian sweeping sixth-place Colton (5-7) to keep ahead of Pomeroy in the final standings. DeSales and Liberty Christian, at press deadline, are tied for first with 11-1 records. They played May 2.

Pomeroy sliced through SJEL last Saturday, 15-0 and 15-2.

With Severs on the mound for the opening game of the Gar-Pal twin bill, the Pirates went to work, Severs fanning eight and the defense combining for the other seven outs.

"I was so impressed with how poised he was on the mound," commented Head Coach Kyler Lovgren. "He came out throwing as hard as I've seen him throw and was hitting his spots with perfection.

"Offensively we hit our stride in the fourth inning, going on a nine-run, two-out rally to support Ollie's efforts and put us up over ten runs to set up a chance for him to close out the game in the fifth inning," Lovgren said.

"The defensive support was also there for him where we were able to pick up seven put outs to combine with his eight strikeouts," the coach said. "What an accomplishment for him and it was a special opportunity for the whole team to share in it.

"Little did we know, the next game was going to put us in a state of disbelief," Lovgren continued.

The second game of the double bill was another "amazing showing at the mound for us," he said. "Brodie Magill pitched a Perfect Game giving us back-to-back Perfect Games."

"What was most impressive about Brodie on the mound," Lovgren said, "was his ability to make adjustments on a continuous basis. "He was dialed in and his control kept improving throughout the game, to the point that in the last inning, it felt automatic that he was throwing strikes that weren't going to be touched.

"This was a special day for both pitchers and our program as a whole," Lovgren said. "We had guys making plays in the field and contributing throughout both games, supporting their teammates to accomplish something very special. Brodie was able to cover first base for two put outs that pulled our first baseman Trace Roberts off the base to make great efforts to field the balls and get the throws to Brodie.

"At the end of the day, I am extremely proud of these players and this team for continuing to improve and play so well, very unique and special day for Pomeroy Baseball," he said.

Brodie Magill maybe sat next to Ollie Severs on the bus or something mysterious and superstitious like that, because, in the glow of Severs's Perfect Game, Magill and the Pirates turned around and did it again. Severs struck out ten.
