DAYTON–Romp it! The 29th All Wheels Weekend 2023 Car Show is careening full throttle toward another boisterously successful Father's Day weekend event as upwards of 150 entries are registered and some new and fascinating attractions have been added to the lineup, according to Chamber Manager Belinda Larson and the All Wheels Weekend Committee.
In addition to the time-honored attractions, this year one of Friday evening's activities might take some people back to another time and place as they "Drag the Gut." The line up Saturday includes the Show & Shine, Outlaw Dragsters, Poker Walk, "Crazy Costume" Trike Races and concluding Demolition Derby.
If you want to try your hand on the Dayton Depot's hand car, head over to 2nd and Commercial to give it a try.
Early registration will be located at the corner of 1st and Main Streets on Friday, June 16 at 4–7 p.m.
Friday's fun starts with the Presentation of Cars in the Bank of Idaho parking lot beginning at 6 p.m. "Cruze Control" tunes up at 7 p.m. for two hours of live music on the Courthouse Lawn.
Saturday begins with registration from 6:30-10 a.m., with Show N Shine commencing at 9 a.m.
Makenna Barron will give a Tribute to the Flag at 9:30 a.m., and Outlaw Lawn Dragsters will burn rubber and hi-test at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. The Poker Walk, sponsored by Dingle's of Dayton, will be at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, and the Crazy Costume Trike Races on 2nd and Main Streets at 1 p.m.
For the small fry, Kid's Zone will be in front of Elk Drug on Main Street.
At 3 p.m., skid broadside into the Liberty Theater for a tire-burning comedy "Smokey and the Bandit," a thrilling picture about two bootleggers eluding Smokey. It stars Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed.
To finalize the Show and Shine competitions, trophy presentations will take place in the Historic Depot Courtyard at 4 p.m.
Out at the Fairgrounds, the Beer Garden will open at 3 p.m. and the Demo Derby will start its roaring excitement at 5 p.m., so follow the throngs to the popular Demo Derby for some ear-splitting, fender-bending action roaring around the arena. Car-show entrants receive complimentary tickets and the public is invited to attend.
Sunday offers a Father's Day Breakfast, sponsored by the Skyline Juniors, at the Columbia County Fairgrounds at 7 a.m. and a Golf Tournament and $10,000 putting contest at 9 a.m.–12 p.m., sponsored by Kelly Right Realtors Scott Hudson and Julie Bickelhaupt.
Friday's forecast is for a warm and sunny day, and Friday evening has a 20 percent chance of showers after 11 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service predicts, will be sunny with a high near 79° F. Sunday the forecast calls for mostly sunny with a high near 70° F., and a slight chance of showers.
