School registration opens August 1

DAYTON-The School Board was informed school registration will open August 1, on-site August 17; the approval of Middle School Head Football Coach; and approved all but one action items.

Superintendent Rich Stewart announced the district will be offering online school registration for the first time through the Skyward Portal beginning on August 1. They will also offer on-site registration on August 17. He also reported the administrative team has been meeting with ESD 123 for training on instructional support, both behavioral and academic, for students. They will develop a "data dashboard" to work for student success. He plans to meet with the staff leadership team to review recent legislation and how that will impact the next school year. In addition, he will regularly meet individually and jointly with those who he supervises. A board retreat is scheduled for August 9.

The Board approved Sam Korslund as the Middle School Head Football Coach; all action items except for the request for a leave of absence for the coming school year for Para Pro Amber McDonald. The unanimous decision came following an executive session where McCowen stated action was expected. The reason cited for the executive session was to evaluate complaints brought against an employee.

Business Manager Jana Eaton stated the June Budget Status Report reflected everything is on track with expenses equaling nearly 80% of the budget, which is below the 84% expected for the tenth month of the school year. She has completed the budget for next school year, and it is currently being reviewed by the administration.

The district is still seeking to fill the vacancy of Position No.1, left by Korinda Wallace.
