Joyfully enjoying a long life

A humorous story tells of three very old friends visiting. One shared that his eyesight was failing. Another said he could hardly hear anymore. The third said he was having trouble walking. The first one said, “Yeah, but at least we can all still drive!” (watch out!)

It encourages us to come across people who joyfully proclaim that though they are growing old, their enjoyment of life is richer than ever. Some complain miserably about getting older. It is true that our bones may ache more, our eyesight dims, our steps are slower and our hearing isn’t what it once was, but the love God has for us imparts us with a deeper sensitivity to all that is good.

His loving kindness enriches the experience of living. Jesus keeps His word to us: “I have come that you might have life, and have it more abundantly” (Jn. 10:10).

Living in faith allows us to personally experience His desire that we “may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God,” (Eph. 3:18-19). Living in faith obedience to God’s Word blesses us with a greater measure of the fullness of God with each passing day!

Our path into the future is covered with this promise, “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” (Prov. 4:18).
