Celebrate "Barn in the USA" at 2023 County Fair

Kids and critters are the focus of the Garfield County Fair, this year themed "Barn in the USA," and featuring numerous local 4-H and FFA youth exhibiting their finest livestock, poultry and other projects which have occupied their time and attention during the previous year. The National Weather Service is calling for clear skies, sunny days and clear evenings, with temperatures in the mid eighties.

POMEROY–The 2023 Garfield County Fair "Barn in the USA" begins Friday and continues through Sunday, September 15–17, opening at 10 a.m. and shuttering at 5 p.m. each day.

The Garfield County Fair week began Tuesday when entries started arriving. Judging will take place at various times.

The "Fair" opens Friday, highlighted by the traditional Fair Parade down Main Street on Friday night at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Teen Dance at the Concession breezeway at the fairgrounds between 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday highlights feature the Cowboy Breakfast at Spinners Hall at 6:30 a.m., with the 2023 Hall of Fame Fair Honoree, Susie Bowles presentation at 8 a.m. In the afternoon, the livestock market sale starts at 4 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 15

8 a.m .: judging of Poultry and Rabbit entries

8:30 a.m .: 4-H and FFA Livestock Judging Contest begins

10 a.m .: Exhibit Halls open

10:30 a.m .: Open Beef Show

11 a.m.–4 p.m .: Izzy the Camel

12 p.m .: Swine Show – Open, 4-H, and FFA Market Swine Confirmation Classes

12-2 p.m .: Lawrence Huntley, Hammer Dulcimer Musician

12:30 p.m .: Beef Show-fitting and showing demonstration with beef judge, Little Partners fitting and showing, 4-H and FFA Market Steer Confirmation Classes, 4-H and FFA Feeder Steer Confirmation Classes

3:00 p.m .: Sheep Show-FFA Market Lambs, 4-H Market Lambs, Open Market, FFA Breeding Stock, 4-H Breeding Stock, Open

Goat Show immediately following Sheep show-4-H, FFA, Open

5 p.m .: Exhibit Halls close

5:30 p.m .: Parade on Main Street

Saturday, Sept. 16

8:15 a.m .: Swine Show-Fitting and showing, Open, FFA, 4-H

9:00 a.m .: Little Partners optional second show

9:30 a.m .: Beef Show-4-H Market Steer fitting and showing, FFA Market Steer fitting and showing, 4-H Feeder Steer fitting and showing, FFA Feeder Steer fitting and showing

10 a.m .: Exhibit Halls open

11 a.m .: Sheep and Goat Show-Fitting and showing demonstration with lamb judge, 4-H fitting and showing, FFA fitting and showing, Open fitting and showing

11 a.m.-4:00 p.m .: Izzy the Camel

12–2 p.m .: Lawrence Huntley, Hammer Dulcimer Musician

12–3 p.m .: Smiles the Clown

1 p.m .: Round Robin

3 p.m .: Free Ice Cream and Cake sponsored by WSU/Garfield County Extension Office in beef arena

3:15 p.m .: 4-H and FFA pictures in beef arena

3:45 p.m .: 4-H and FFA Livestock awards presentation in swine arena

4 p.m .: Market Livestock sale

5 p.m .: Exhibit Halls close

Sunday, Sept. 17

8 a.m .: 4-H Horse games. Open horse and Trail show follows

10 a.m. Cowboy Church

10 a.m .: Exhibit Halls open
