Braxton McKeirnan (20) dives with the football while being tackled by Dayton's Raymond Yutzy (11) and Tristan Rennaker (7).

POMEROY––Pirate ball carrier Walker Flynn broke a 64-yard touchdown ramble on the Pirates' first play of the game, and the Buccaneers never looked back for a 76-0 Southeast 1B football win here Friday.

The 5-1 Pirates visit Tekoa-Rosalia this Friday as the season makes the turn into the home stretch. Dayton is 2-3 in league and overall.

"Dayton was really banged up coming into this game and I'm hoping they came out of it healthy," said Head Coach Kyle Kimble. "Our backups got good playing time and some valuable experience on both sides of the ball and really shined when put into the game. Levi Bowen scored three touchdowns and Braxton McKeirnan added two touchdowns to lead the scoring for the Pirates."

The Pirates chalked up 309 yards rushing on 38 plays and two of five throws for two yards while holding Dayton to a -17 total yards of offense.

Vinnie Vecchio packed the mail 16 times for 93 yards to lead Pirate rushers. Walker Flynn made 80 yards on three carries and one touchdown. Bowen gained 49 yards on eight plays and McKeirnan counted 39 yards on eight carries. Jett Slusser, Jacob Reisinger and Ollie Severs each had one rush for six.

Defensively, the Bucs shared the tackling honors, with Colby Ledgerwood getting 7½ solo stops, Peyton Cannon counting 2½ and Cesar Morfin, Robby VanVogt and McKeirnan notching two each. Vinnie Vecchio, Boone Schmidt, Levi Bowen and Rylan Carnahan-Hays all made a solo tackle.

Following Flynn's first-play touchdown, the Bulldogs fumbled on their first play and Severs recovered, returning the ball 41 yards to inside the one-yard line. He scored on the next play and Reisinger ran in the conversion for an early 16-0 lead.

Dayton tried passes to Denver Hutchens and Raymond Yutzy that were well defended, then quarterback Jordan McCowen was sacked by Carnahan-Hays and Pomeroy took over on downs on the 29 yard line.

Flynn rushed twice for first down on the 13, setting up Reisinger's 13-yard ramble. Slusser found Schmidt in the end zone for the PAT and a 24-0 lead.

The Bulldogs' next drive was cut short by another fumble to Severs on the 13 yard line. Two Pirate holding penalties pushed Pomeroy to the 35, then Slusser broke free for six points. Reisinger threw to Severs for the point-after.

Once again Dayton, deep in its own territory, fumbled on its first play, Trace Roberts scooping up the ball to set up McKeirnan's 12-yard run for the fifth score of the quarter. The PAT didn't go so the running clock was forestalled for the moment.

Pomeroy's onside kick by Morfin was recovered by Schmidt at mid field, and the Pirates started a ground march with Vecchio, McKeirnan, Bowen to the Bulldog 18 yard line where the largely reserve squad turned the ball over on downs.

Uncaught Bulldog passes by McCowen to Hutchens and a bad snap recovered by the Bulldogs stopped their drive and Hutchens punted.

The Pirates had good field position and in a few plays Bowen dove in from the two yard line. McKeirnan added the conversion and the running clock was in play.

Early in the second stanza, Bowen ran through Dayton defenders for a 20-yard touchdown, capped by a Vecchio to VanVogt point-after and a 54-0 lead.

The 'Dogs started from their 29 but another first-play fumble resulted in a 19-yard reversal for Dayton with the recovery at their nine-yard line. The defense held and Dayton punted, giving the Pirate reserves the ball at the 37 where numerous rushing plays and a couple passing plays were unproductive before time expired at the half.

The third period opened with Dayton getting the football but stalling, turning the ball over on downs. Bowen and Vecchio packed the mail to get to the 10 where Bowen finished the drive with a touchdown, and added the conversion.

Dayton's next drive was cut short by Reisinger intercepting quarterback Raymond Yutzy. McKeirnan got the call for the one-yard touchdown and Vecchio found VanVogt for the conversion and a 70-0 lead.

McCowen carried for the Bulldogs, making some yardage and getting some momentum working. McCowen hit Beau Hazelbaker for an 11-yard gain and first down on the Pomeroy 45 where a number of running plays ended when Cesar Morfin threw Hazelbaker for a seven-yard loss and Pirate possession of the ball.

The Bucs moved the ball through this shortened part of the fourth quarter, finishing with a McKeirnan score and the final 76-0.
