Volleyball ready for post season

POMEROY––Pirate volleyball ended its seven-match road stretch by playing at Dayton and Asotin, handing the Lady Bulldogs a 3-1 loss and dropping the match to Asotin by the same score.
The Lady Pirates host Colton this week and SJEL for Homecoming Spirit Night on Tuesday, October 24, finishing the regular season against Tekoa-Rosalia next Thursday at home.
The team is in the thick of it, holding down third with a 6-4 league mark behind SJEL at 7-2 and Oakesdale at 10-0. Times and locations for post-season crossover matches will be announced for October 30 and November 2, with the SE 1B District Saturday, November 4 in Dayton. State is November 8-9 in Yakima.
Asotin won in four close sets, 22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 24-26, Oct. 12. "With a starting line-up that included three freshmen," said Coach Adam Van Vogt, "our girls competed hard with exciting rally after exciting rally. Every game was decided by three points or less." The team was missing a senior captain.
At Dayton Oct. 10, the Lady Bucs' strong serve receive and hearty defense allowed the team to get a two-set advantage and win 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-12. Dayton rallied to win the third set 25-23. "Thankfully, we found our rhythm at the serve line for game four and played our most complete game of the night to win the match," Van Vogt said.
"When teams struggle at the serve line, it often affects the way they play overall," the coach said. "Our girls routinely came back from a missed serve with a great serve receive or great rally to get the ball back."
