My name is John Hirsch and I am running for City Council.

VMI instills in its graduates the desire to pursue careers in public service, not just in the military but as "Citizen Soldiers," to serve our country and our communities. I have tried to live up to that throughout my adult life. I have lived in Pomeroy for 20 years and have worked with the Sheriff's Office, Emergency management, 911, and Garfield County Transportation.

I have lived in many parts of the U.S. and can say that I am proud to call Pomeroy my home. I would like the opportunity to continue serving our great community.

Professional Experience: Served in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Officer and UH-1 Huey Gunship pilot, City of Spokane Firefighter for 24 years, Garfield County Reserve Deputy, Garfield County Emergency Manager and Garfield County MSAG Officer.

Education: 1976 Graduate of Delhass High School in Bristol, Penn., and 1980 Graduate of Virginia Military Institute.

Community Service: In June 2023 I was appointed to the Pomeroy City Council to finish out the seat vacated by Susie Bowles, I have served on the Garfield County LEPC, Pomeroy Partners, and the Pomeroy School Board.
