The double digits of Trace Roberts (88) and Jacob Reisinger (11) had Irish receiver Sal Sisk (9) looking like a piece of taffy as the Pirate defense clamped down on the Irish offense.

POMEROY––The Pirates took control of their destiny–and post-season play–by defeating DeSales 44-22 in SE1B action here Oct. 20. Pomeroy holds a 6-1 record, second place behind Liberty Christian at 7-0, and ahead of Garfield-Palouse at 5-2.

The Pirates host fifth-place Sunnyside Christian (4-3) Friday at Lybecker Field for Pomeroy's Homecoming and Senior Night.

"I'm super proud of our guys and how they approached the preparation this week," commented Head Coach Kyle Kimble. "They were fully committed to our plan and they worked the plan to perfection. This was a great game between two proud football teams."

Ollie Severs rushed for 180 yards on 17 attempts and scored two touchdowns and Jett Slusser added two touchdowns passing, Kimble pointed out.

"The Pirate defense played well causing a fumble that was recovered by Trace Roberts in the end zone scoring a touchdown on the last play of the first half," Kimble said. Another defensive standout was Jacob Reisinger, who added an interception to stop a DeSales drive.

The Buccaneers had built a 22-0 lead before the usually prolifically scoring Irish got on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Roberts recovered the end-zone fumble to end the half and Pomeroy was in command 28-8.

The Irish busted open a 40-yard Diego Caso touchdown in the third and finished with a Cohen Wood to Carter Green touchdown pass to wrap up the fourth quarter.

Boone Schmidt pulled in a Slusser pass for a Pirate third-quarter touchdown, and Slusser ran in the point after. Severs got loose for a 64-yard touchdown sprint in the final stanza, and Roberts ran in the PAT.
