Second Harvest to come 11 months out of 12 next year

November 23, 2023

POMEROY–The Garfield County Public Health District Board discussed the Second Harvest schedule, fiber internet repairs, and passed two resolutions at their meeting on November 20.

Second Harvest came during five months of 2023 and, after a break during December, will return 11 months out of the year in 2024. They will not be coming in December of 2024. The board discussed the need for Second Harvest’s visits in the community. Martha Lanman, Administrator for the district, expressed her thanks to the volunteers who have served at each visit.

The fiber internet connection between the Garfield County Courthouse and the GCPHD office at the Pomeroy Elementary School requires repairs. The board approved apparent low bidder Summit Utility Contractors to make the repairs, not to exceed $25,000.

South East Washington Alliance for Health has approved funding for multiple projects in Garfield County. They will fund two vape sensors that will be placed in Pomeroy Jr/Sr High School, and lice kits that will be available at the GCPHD office.

The board passed resolution 2023-20, the 2024 Emergency Housing/Clinic fee schedule, adding a cottage and catering fee as well as a late fair booth permit fee. Also passed was resolution 2023-21, a renewal of the District’s Stay Active and Independent for Life program contract with South East Washington Aging and Long Term Care. The District will be provided with $4,000 for the program during 2024.
