County Commissioners handle year-end business

POMEROY-The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) passed a levy certification for all coextensive taxing districts certifications, held a budget hearing, and approved an inter-fund transfer at their meeting on December 11.

The BOCC certified that they have reviewed all 2023-24 levy certifications from coextensive taxing districts including the Garfield County General Fund, the Garfield County Road Fund, the Mental Health Fund, the City of Pomeroy, the Port of Garfield County, Garfield County Fire District #1, the Garfield County Hospital District, Pomeroy School District, and the PSD bond.

After receiving no public comment, the BOCC continued their budget hearing until December 17, at which time they will vote on the adoption of the 2024 budget. Public comment on the budget remains open until the vote is held.

The commissioners approved resolution 2023-25, an inter-fund transfer from the criminal justice fund to the current expense fund of $400,000. This yearly transfer funds emergency management wages and expenses that are not covered by the E911 contract.

In other business, the BOCC approved an inter-local agreement with the Garfield County Public Health District for Public Health Services, pending approval by the Garfield County Prosecutor Matt Newberg. They also discussed a gas engine Show & Shine and swap meet the Eastern Washington Agricultural Museum has planned for June 29 and 30. It is the first time the EWAM has hosted the event, which is intended to promote the museum as well as bring visitors to Pomeroy.
