Jr. Pirates press hard for wins

POMEROY–The Jr. Pirates played the Asotin Panthers for the second time in three days at home on December 7.

The Tuesday game was a six-point win and the boys held their own with Asotin again on Thursday, to 30 points. The boys executed their offense well, according to Coach Brock Ledgerwood, but "struggled to put the ball in the basket."

Defense was key. Christian Ramirez was key to the second half effort. He brought energy on "the defensive end when the Jr. Pirates really needed it.

"Treyton Kimb "Playing in our 44-30 victory was Kaleb Miller 8, Conrad Nelson 7, Josiah Ledgerwood 5, Owen Wolf 3, Rory McKeirnan 2, and Ramirez and Tyler Dixon.

The Varsity team at Asotin on December 5, won a hard-fought defensive battle 38-32. "We had balanced scoring with all seven guys putting points on the board," remarked Coach Ledgerwood. "We jumped out to a 21-10 half time lead pushed by our defense charging a 13-4 second quarter run."

Shooting was a problem for the varsity during 3rd quarter, lending several baskets to Asotin. "We never gave up the lead, but had to work hard down the stretch," he said.

Treyton Kimble led with 9 points and Tyler Dixon hit two big free throws to seal the win. Rory McKeirnan 8, Kaleb Miller 6, Conrad Nelson 6, Tyler Dixon 5, Owen Wolf 2, & Josiah Ledgerwood 2.

The game with Colton on December 4 was cancelled due to illness within their team, but the JV and C Squad played, winning both: JV 25-14 and C Squad 17-5. The Tuesday, December 5 JV game was a tough one led by Lincoln Lovgren, but was a loss with Asotin 25, Pomeroy 21.

The team had a Varsity rematch in Colfax on Monday, December 11; a Tuesday game in Rosalia on December 12, then will finish the week in Endicott on December 14.
