December 14, 2023

DAYTON–A big first quarter gave the Lady Pirates the momentum to carry through to a 51-28 conference win here Saturday, December 9. Pomeroy is 2-2 overall, 1-1 in league after beating Waitsburg and being shelled by Colton treys 61-18 the previous night at home.

The Lady Bucs face Oakesdale at home Friday and visit Gar-Pal Saturday.

'Our full-court pressure was good and fun to watch," Head Coach Brian Koller commented about the Dayton win. "We are gaining but still have miles to go."

Taylor Gilbert led the Lady Pirates with 16 points and Kendyll Potoshnik scored 12 in her first varsity start.

"Colton jumped on the Pirates in the first half with tough defense and great shooting," commented Koller, the Lady Pirates trailing 24-2 after the first-quarter dust settled. "We played hard but couldn't stop them from hitting 3 pointers."

Koller praised Gilbert for aggressive play on offense, and said Sadie Klaveano played well in the paint.

"We got beat but we will learn from it and try to improve in many areas," he said.

The Lady Pirates' defense forced 23 Cardinal turnovers in the first half for a 45-0 halftime score, finishing with a 52-10 tilt.

"Our defense was better, and we rebounded well," Koller said. "Waitsburg is young and inexperienced, but they played hard the whole game."

All players saw floor time, Koller added.
