Lady Pirate Taylor Gilbert (12) pushes the ball into the basket in action from the Lady Buccaneer's 56-26 loss to Oakesdale here December 15. The team is 1-3 in the SE1B Wheat Division and 2-4 on the season.

POMEROY––Two formidable foes were faced by the Lady Pirates, both ending with losses for the Pomeroy five yet with improvement showing as the December season schedule winds down before Christmas Break. Pomeroy fell to Gar-Pal 61-41 at Palouse, and were downed by the Oakesdale Lady Nighthawks 56-26 last Friday on the home court.

After this week's contest with St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse, the Lady Bucs travel to Liberty Christian on Wednesday. They face Waitsburg there on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Against Gar-Pal, the Lady Pirates' play improved over the previous evening, said Head Coach Brian Koller. "But still have lots to improve upon moving forward."

The coach had praise for Carmen Fruh for providing a "huge spark off the bench" for the team. Kiersten Bartels, Koller said, played her best game of the season.

"Overall it was a better effort and we played more physical," Koller said.

Gar-Pal's 19-8 first quarter margin was built upon with the 36-18 half time score, but the Lady Pirates came out of the locker room after half and won the third quarter 18-15.

Against Oakesdale, turnovers were the bane for the Lady Bucs. "Turnovers proved to be the determining factor," Koller said. "The second quarter we just coughed up the ball way too much against their pressure."

Koller praised Haliee Brewer and Hannah Bagby for their solid performances.

"We need more girls to step up and play hard to compete with this type of team," he said.
