The Pirates were effective defending Dayton, holding the Bulldogs to single-digit scoring each quarter. Trace Roberts (42), who was the leading scorer, and Kyzer Herres (22) surround Dayton's Colton Steinhoff (21).

POMEROY–The Pirates are in first in the Southeast 1B league with a 7-0 league mark and 11-2 after this week's 49-42 loss to Oakesdale on Tuesday (story in next week's edition).

Up next is a Friday homestand versus Tekoa-Rosalia with a road trip to Colton on Saturday.

Pomeroy enjoyed a taut defense and prolific scoring in its 64-16 weekend win over the Dayton Bulldogs.

Trace Roberts topped Pirate scorers with 15 points, and Kyzer Herres poured in 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished three assists, and made five steals. "Kyzer played a very complete game," said Head Coach Chris Wolf. Braxton McKeirnan went 5-6 from the field and had 10 points with three steals.

"Dayton is a young team that will be good in a couple of years," Wolf noted.

"We have several positions where we have a size and strength advantage, and the boys did a good job of exposing those," he said. "We were able to play everybody and got good contributions up and down the lineup.  We played solid defense and were able to score around the basket."
