POMEROY-The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) accepted James Wege's resignation letter, approved a support letter, and approved payment of Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) dues at their meeting on January 29.

The board accepted County Engineer and Public Works Director James Wege's letter of resignation, which gave 45 days' notice. His last working day is scheduled for March 18. "I appreciate the opportunity to sever Garfield County, and I thank the community for being so welcoming," Wege stated in his letter.

The BOCC voted to add their signatures to a letter of support to State Representative Joe Schmick, regarding his attempts to secure funding for wildlife conflict specialists, county employees who would go to wildlife depredation incidents to ensure the county residents' best interests are being met.

The board also approved payment of WSAC dues for 2024, totaling $7,280. WSAC is a voluntary, non-profit association that affords its member counties with advocacy and professional development services as well as networking opportunities.

In further business, the board approved an $18,000 budget for Affordable Housing through Pomeroy Assist, and discussed water and sewer line damage that occurred at the Quality Behavioral Health building due to the recent sub-zero weather.
