Pirate Jett Slusser went 6-6 in the first half and had 16 points and 5 assists at halftime, helping spark the Pirates against Garfield-Palouse.

POMEROY––The Pirates hold a 10-1 record along with Oakesdale with Gar-Pal in third with an 8-4 record and Tekoa-Rosalia fourth at 5-6 as the regular season closes out this weekend with a road game to St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse and Senior Night against Sunnyside Christian Saturday.

The Pirates defeated Tekoa-Rosalia Tuesday 61-14 (story next week).

Pomeroy took a decisive game over Gar-Pal, bolting to a 15-2 first-quarter lead, and a 33-11 half-time margin.

"We played great position defense tonight and had great communication," said Head Coach Chris Wolf. "It was a great team win after a couple rough games for us lately."

"Jett Slusser went 6-6 in the first half and had 16 points and 5 assists at halftime," Wolf said. "He got us off to a great start and played well the whole game while guarding their leading scorer Lane Collier and holding him to seven points on 12 shot attempts." Slusser finished with 21 and eight assists.

Trace Roberts had 6 points and 9 rebounds. Colby Ledgerwood had 4 points and added 3 steals while playing great defense tonight.

Against DeSales, the Pirates were cold, hitting only 11 of 43 attempts, Wolf said. "We didn't hit any of our open threes which allowed them to collapse on our posts. We only made 3-21 from 3 and many of those were wide open looks," he said.

Wolf said turnovers in the second quarter let DeSales get rolling offensively. "They live off of live ball turnovers and getting out in transition," Wolf said. "The first and third quarters we did that and were right with them and the second and fourth quarters we struggled with turnovers and rushed shots."
