Pomeroy School District's fundraiser collection of more than $1,400 was especially for school children victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in November. Superintendent Doug LaMunyan volunteered to have his head shaved in $400 was collected. District staff members Amy Miller, Amy Smith, Fred Knebel and Rachel Gwinn volunteered to receive a pie in the face if more than $700 were collected, and Cort LaMunyan volunteered to have his head shaved, after two years without haircuts, if $1,000 were raised. PHS senior Cody LaMunyan volunteered to have his mustache shaved if the total exceeded $1,200.

PacificCorp, the parent company of Pacific Power, has donated $2,500 to the Pomeroy ball field project. Merri Lee Keatts submitted the request to Bill Clemens, general business manager for Pacific Power's Walla Walla office, who put together the recommendation for the donation. Ed Fruh, who is coordinating the work on the fields on Port of Garfield County land at the west end of town, said leveling of the ground will start when the weather clears.

Mr. and Mrs. Bed Wade and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Richardson will be honored as the 1974 Garfield County Cattlemen families of the Year at the annual Cattlemen's Association banquet in the IOOF hall. Wade operates some 2,900 acres of farm and pasture land, all leased, in the county, and they have a partnership in the cattle operation. Richardson and his wife Linda, son-in-law and daughter of the Wades, reside on the Pataha Creek south of the Alpowa hill.

February 10, 1949

At 1:30 p.m. this afternoon, Pomeroy appeared to be in for a bad flood. Water in Benjamin Gulch Creek, which flows through the city park, was up even with the foot bridges. Water in Pataha creek was up even with the railroad bridge in the west end of town. At least four railroad bridges were out between Pomeroy and Starbuck. There will be no train service to Pomeroy for at least ten days, according to Pomeroy section crew men.

February 8, 1924

A meeting of Mayview farmers last Saturday failed to reach a decision as to whether they shall form a corporation and take over the telephone line between Pomeroy and Mayveiw and between Mayview and Ilia, on terms proposed by the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company. The company offers to make a farmers' corporation a gift of the poles and one cross-arm and sell at cost the four wires now strung.

February 11, 1899

Last Monday night three hobos attempted to hold up Otto Koenig. As he was coming down Main Street and when near Krouse & Huffman's shop, three men stepped out in front of him and ordered his to throw up his hands. Otto threw up his right arm and the nearest hobo went down.
