Pirates fighting for state tournament berth

POMEROY––After a thrilling 59-55 double overtime win over Liberty Christian, the Pomeroy Pirates hosted the DeSales Irish but were bumped into the consolation bracket by a 49-38 loss here Saturday, February 10.

The Buccaneers next take on Garfield-Palouse Wednesday, February 14, in Dayton, with the opening tip at 6:45 p.m.

Gar-Pal was sent into the consolation bracket after a 46-34 loss to Sunnyside Christian on Feb. 8 at Sunnyside, and defeated Yakama Tribal last Saturday 54-40 to stay alive. Yakama, and Tekoa-Rosalia, a 64-48 loser to Liberty Christian, finished their seasons.

DeSales and Oakesdale face off at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in Dayton, both with guaranteed spots at State.

If Pomeroy, who defeated Gar-Pal 45-39 and 53-31 during the regular season, prevails, they will face the winner of the Sunnyside Christian-Liberty Christian game set for 5 p.m. Feb. 14 in Dayton.
